SKILL
Smithing
Smelt ore into bars, then hammer bars and timber into better pickaxes and hatchets at the Slagworks anvil.
MENTOR: HOBAREA: THE SLAGWORKS
Why
Better tools are permanent: fewer swings, more doubles, faster progress in Mining and Woodcutting forever.
Iron, Silver, Soulsteel and Hellfire tools, plus heavy blocks for your builds.
Each tool tier needs the next tier of ore and wood, so it pulls you into the deep galleries.

The mentor says
- Iron scrap? Put it in. Two scrap, one bar. Do not stand there like a coat rack.
- Bars make tools. Tools stay. You keep the pickaxe forever, and the rocks resent it.
- Iron tools at five. Silver at fifteen. The rest costs you a bit of soul, literally.
- Every tool takes timber too. Oak handles, willow handles, elm handles.
- The Deep Forge at twenty-five. I keep a lantern lit for it.
- Chain and Hazard blocks are for your builds. I like chain.
- The First Anvil is older than the street. It makes things nobody asked for and I am not going to ask why.
